They seem tired and exhausted; their gaze is empty or directed at the smartphone. Others sleep, their heads leaning against the window of the train. These faces come and go, linger only briefly in the observer’s field of vision.

The slide installation commuters by Dagmar Keller and Martin Wittwer shows portraits of commuters waiting to go back home after work in the evening in varying sequences. They are involuntary travelers, anonymous commuters between the suburbs and the capital, driven by a job, money, and the prospect of a better life. At a train station in Moscow, Keller and Wittwer focus on the faces in the window seats, bathed in the same light by the interior lighting. The participation in this fleeting moment prior to departure suggests closeness, which is interrupted by the partly iced, dirty, or fogged up windows.
