Journey of discovery
Richard Long – Oxshott near London
13.12.2020
Unlike most of the works of Land Art, Richard Long’s interventions into the found landscapes during his conceptual hikes are only minimally invasive. His works are articulated by temporary traces, which are usually visible as lines or circular shapes. in nature. For this purpose, the artist uses spontaneously found stones, sticks, sand, or woods, which he arranges into geometric shapes that are often removed after the photographic documentation or left to natural weathering.
The works Oxshott near London and A Hundred Mile Walk along a Line in County Mayo, Ireland, which he created close to his British home, are an early proof of this. With their both documentary and lyrical character, they discuss the found nature in a unique manner.
