Christoph Westermeier travels, and he travels through several countries, eras, and media simultaneously. His wall installation Die Horizontale Grand Tour is an educational journey that does not only investigate the presence of traditional travel photography and historical cultural assets in the collective memory of the visitors but also explores the artistic field of photography.

Bohemian Baroque meets natural idyll and Greek sculptures meet views of the Mediterranean: Westermeier prints personal travel images on the pages of antiquarian publications; he overlays, collages, and arranges them. The framed juxtaposition and superimposition of the photographs lead to surprising pairings and new meanings. For his most recent work, Die Reise der Quadriga, Westermeier follows the historical and geographical traces of the goddess of victory, from Berlin to China.
