Nicole Schuck – Ostrea edulis – siedeln
Nicole Schuck’s artistic focus is the native wildlife and its changing habitats. She researches and questions its regional adaptation due to ecological, geographic, economic, and social change. She incorporates in her works her findings, which she generates on-site, in collaboration with scientists, conservationists, and local residents.
But this does by no means result in scientific still lifes but rather in very poetic, vivid, and partly fragmentary drawings. Extremely filigree pencil lines are condensed into complex, fully differentiated structures with which one needs to engage. The shell of an oyster, for example, provides, when viewed more closely, an existential basis for other living beings. Schuck approaches animal individuals with curiosity, respect, and appreciation.
